Maine High School Student Guitar Competition announces winner

MECHANIC FALLS — The Maine Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum has named the teen winner of its third annual Maine High School Student Guitar Competition.

Jack Marston, a 14-year-old freshman at Cape Elizabeth High School, placed first in the statewide contest.

Marston will receive the grand prize, a Martin guitar, and will perform with Hall of Fame inductees at the 47th annual Maine Country Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony, set for 1 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the Silver Spur, 272 Lewiston St. in Mechanic Falls.

Marston is the son of Peter and Laura Marston.

Marston, who has been playing guitar since age 10, performs with Cape Elizabeth High School’s Big Band Jazz Ensemble, playing both guitar and saxophone, and also with a three-piece combo under the direction of music teacher Robert Wheeler.

Tickets are $15 at the door.
